Synthetic redesigning of plant photorespiration and metabolic engineering of algae

Losses of previously fixed carbon and nitrogen as well as energy and reducing equivalent consumption define photorespiration as a wasteful process limiting overall plant productivity. Using synthetic biology tools we use existing and novel pathways to redesign C3 plant photorespiration with regards to carbon, nitrogen and energy conservation, aiming at growth and fitness promotion.

Further, we use those tools to synthetically integrate heterologous metabolic pathways into algae to produce high value compounds in high quality and quantity. For all these studies we use different cloning approaches, confocal microscopy for localization analysis and metabolic analysis via HPLC and GC-MS.
